Candy is everywhere, and while chocolate is said to be the preference of the majority of adults, children tend to eat four times more gummy candies compared to adults.

1. This nostalgic candy made its first appearance in 1922 when the circus inspired a man named Hans Reigel to come up with the first gummy bear. He went on to be the founder of the well-known candy company, Haribo.

2. The Guinness Book of World Records quotes the largest gummy candy ever created to be 1,128 pounds. This massive creation was built in Germany in 2014

3. Gummy worms didn’t come about until about twenty years later, first produced by Trolli. They wanted something that grossed kids out in a way that kept them wanting more!

4. Gummy worms took the stage in America almost a year before gummy bears did, despite gummy bears being the standard gummy candy today.

5. While gummy candy may not be a superfood, compared to other candies they are relatively healthy, containing little fat and some protein from the gelatin…but you still have to factor in their high sugar content!

9. According to Haribo, if you took all the gummi bears they produced each year and lined them up head to toe, there would be enough to make it all the way around the world!

10. Swedish Fish are one of the few gummy candies that are vegan by nature, as they do not contain gelatin. Other gummy candies, such as Haribo Gummi Bears, usually produce an alternate vegan version.
