Fact #1: Nobody can agree on the flavor.

We already alluded to this one in the introduction, so we might as well tackle the controversy head-on. Here’s the confusing truth: nobody knows what flavor Swedish fish are supposed to be.

Swedish fish are actually from Sweden, which is how they got their name in the United States. You’d think then, that in Sweden they’d just be called “fish” but since that name was already taken by the actual swimming animal, they’re called Pastellfiskar instead. Translation? “Pale fish.”

They don’t seem that pale to us, but who are we to argue with the creators of the candy?
